The beauty of nature is my greatest source of inspiration whether painting en plein air or a still life in the studio.  I paint from life or from my photos to create a realistic impression using direct oil painting techniques.

I grew up in northern Indiana on a farm.  I always loved being outdoors and drawing.  I have a masters degree in education and taught 24 years.  I currently live with my husband, Jerry and my dog, Piper in Rockwell, NC.

Working in my studio at Rail Walk Studios & Gallery is a joy.

My website is at tanglewoodbrushstrokes.com

Keyth Kahrs

Keyth Kahrs joined the Rail Walk Studios & Gallery in December of 2013.  Kahrs began painting as a teen, in oils and acrylics.  While pursuing a college degree in Graphic Design he continued to hone his skills as a fine arts painter.  After working as a commercial artist, Kahrs turned his attention to the fine arts.  Leaping Trout Studio was born in 2004, in Lowertown Arts District, located in Paducah, Kentucky.  Kahrs paints landscapes and wildlife studies, subjects he selects from a vast collection of travel photos collected throughout the years.  Keyth's paintings display vivid color, light and shadow, often featuring water as a common theme.  Commissioned pet portraits are another source of subject matter.

The wonder of color, playing with pigments, keeps me going to my studio every day.

I paint just to paint: to get to that place where time stops and wooshes away to be one with nature...to feel contained for a while in something grander than myself.

"I've had a creative spirit as long as I remember.  In the early 80's, my mother encouraged me to try watercolor by signing us up for a workshop.  While I love the challenges of watercolor,  oil is also a favorite medium.  I enjoy painting on site; but when that's not possible, I take photos to use as reference.

Throughout my life, I have been a secretary, floral designer, and real estate broker.  I graduated from South Rowan High School, King's College and attended Catawba College.  I attend South China Grove Baptist Church.  I have a son, three grandchildren, and live in China Grove, NC with my husband, Ron.

You can find my work displayed at Rail Walk Studios & Gallery located at 409 N. Lee Street, Salisbury, NC.  My website is www.cathybenfieldmatthews.com and phone 980-330-2137"
